The Danube Tower, or Donauturm, is an iconic symbol of Vienna, standing tall at 252 meters (827 feet). Built in 1964 for the Vienna International Garden Show, it quickly became a centerpiece and a major attraction, offering a new perspective on the city. Designed by architect Hannes Lintl, the tower reflects Vienna's post-war economic upswing and technological advancements. The tower offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Vienna, the Danube River, and the surrounding areas from its observation decks at 150 and 155 meters. Interactive panorama screens on the indoor and outdoor viewing platforms provide information about the sights in eight languages. Visitors can also enjoy the revolving Turm Restaurant at 170 meters and the Turm Café at 160 meters, both restored in the style of the 1960s with modern updates. The restaurant completes a full rotation in 29 to 52 minutes, depending on the time of day and wind conditions. Thrill-seekers can experience Europe's highest slide, installed in 2023, which descends from 165 meters to the viewing level 15 meters below. The slide, designed by object artist Carsten Höller, has a gradient of 29 degrees and reaches speeds of up to 18 km/h. The Danube Tower also hosts events throughout the year, including New Year's Eve celebrations and BASE jumping events. The surrounding Donaupark offers a variety of recreational activities, including playgrounds, walking paths, and the Donauparkbahn miniature railway.
