Das WERK: Vienna's Alternative Arts Hub

Das WERK, an alternative arts and culture initiative, has been a fixture in Vienna's creative scene since its establishment in August 2006. Located along the Donaukanal at Spittelauer Lände 12, it occupies five arches of the historic Vienna metropolitan railway (Wiener Stadtbahn) since spring 2013. This unique setting provides a distinctive backdrop for the center's multifaceted activities. Das WERK serves as a hub for various artistic endeavors, encompassing an exhibition space, concert and party venue, and workshops/ateliers for artists. It has fostered a collaborative environment for creatives from diverse fields such as literature, theater, visual art, and music. The center is committed to supporting emerging and avant-garde artists from around the world, providing them with a platform to create and exchange ideas. In addition to its regular program, Das WERK organizes art and music festivals, including the renowned 'Kunst am Kanal'. They also host the award-winning international exchange project 'World Wide WERK'. Das WERK aims to make cultural events accessible to all, with donation-based entry fees ensuring affordability for disadvantaged groups. The venue also supports various social and humanitarian projects. Das WERK was voted the best club in Austria in a poll by FM4, an Austrian alternative music radio station, in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
