    Discover more about Palais Schwarzenberg

Palais Schwarzenberg, located on Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna's Landstraße district, is a magnificent example of Baroque architecture and aristocratic grandeur. Construction began in 1697, commissioned by Count Heinrich Franz von Mansfeld-Fondi and later completed by Prince Adam Franz of Schwarzenberg. The palace was designed by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt and Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The palace served as a venue for diplomatic negotiations and celebrations during the Congress of Vienna in 1814-1815. During World War II, it suffered damage but was later repaired. Today, Palais Schwarzenberg remains in private ownership of the Schwarzenberg family. The palace's exterior features a symmetrical façade, ornate window surrounds, and the Schwarzenberg coat of arms. Inside, the Marble Hall (Marmorsaal) once displayed ceiling paintings by Daniel Gran. The palace gardens, though reduced in size, still offer a green oasis with geometric patterns and ornamental features. The Hochstrahlbrunnen fountain, now on Schwarzenbergplatz, was originally part of the palace's water features. While the main rooms are not regularly open to the public, the exterior and gardens offer excellent photo opportunities. Occasionally, the palace hosts special cultural events and concerts. The private garden of Palais Schwarzenberg also hosts Theater im Park am Belvedere, an open-air theatre, from May to September.
