Vienna International Centre (VIC)

The Vienna International Centre (VIC), often called UNO City, has been a hub for international diplomacy since its inauguration on August 23, 1979. Designed by Austrian architect Johann Staber, the VIC comprises six Y-shaped office towers surrounding a cylindrical conference building, offering a total floor area of 230,000 square meters. The tallest tower reaches 127 meters and has 28 floors, making them some of Austria's first modern skyscrapers. The VIC is home to several United Nations organizations, including the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). Approximately 5,000 people from over 125 countries work at the VIC. Visitors can take guided tours of the VIC to learn about the work of the United Nations and experience the international atmosphere. The tours include the Memorial Plaza with flags of over 190 member states, temporary exhibitions, and impressive conference rooms. The VIC also offers various services, including catering, shopping facilities at the Commissary, a post office, and banking services. The VIC is easily accessible by public transportation, being a short U-Bahn ride from Vienna's city center. Its location on the banks of the Danube and its modern architecture make it a unique landmark in Vienna.
