    Discover more about Zacherlhaus

The Zacherlhaus, situated at Brandstätte 6 in Vienna's Innere Stadt, stands as a testament to the city's rich architectural heritage. Designed by Jože Plečnik, a student of Otto Wagner, and constructed between 1903 and 1905, this building was commissioned by Johann Evangelist Zacherl, son of the insecticide magnate Johann Zacherl. The building's facade is clad in polished grey granite plates, complemented by an artistically executed cornice. The facade includes a figure of Archangel Michael by Ferdinand Andri and atlantes designed by Franz Metzner. The oval-shaped stairwell features a lamp inspired by the shape of an insect, a nod to the Zacherl family's insecticide business. Damaged during World War II, the Zacherlhaus was restored in 1949. Today, it is a protected building and serves as office space owned by Johann Zacherl's descendants. Its location is close to other landmarks such as St. Stephen's Cathedral. While the interior isn't generally open to the public, the exterior provides ample opportunity for photographers and architecture enthusiasts to appreciate its unique design.
