Herb and I had Percy all to ourselves, and this food tour ended up being the best thing we did in Vienna. The food and drinks alone would have made it worthwhile. We started at historic Café Eiles with Schnittlauchbrot, apfelstrudel, and a proper Melange. At Rochusmarkt, a wonderfully local and less touristy market, we enjoyed pastries from Ströck, schnitzel from Radatz, and a side-by-side tasting of Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder. We continued with leberkäse and a beer at Leberkäs Pepi, then finished at a wurststand with Waldviertel sausages and an Ottakringer beer. The portions were generous, the food was delicious, and we felt like we were eating where locals actually eat. What truly made the experience exceptional was Percy. He has a deep knowledge of Viennese history and culture, but he shares it through engaging stories rather than rehearsed facts. As an experienced traveler himself, he also brought thoughtful perspective and personal context to everything we saw and tasted.
