Discover more about Jubiläumswarte

The Jubiläumswarte, a prominent observation tower, is situated on the Gallitzinberg in Vienna's 16th district, Ottakring. Rising 449 meters above sea level, this structure provides visitors with sweeping views of Vienna and the Vienna Woods. The tower's history dates back to 1898 when the original wooden tower was erected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. A storm destroyed this initial structure shortly after its unveiling. In 1899, the Ottakringer Beautification Association rebuilt the tower with an iron frame. The tower fell into disrepair during World War II and was demolished in 1953. The current Jubiläumswarte, constructed of reinforced concrete, was inaugurated in 1956. Visitors can ascend the 31-meter tower via a 90 cm wide spiral staircase with 183 steps. The viewing platform offers a 360-degree vista. On clear days, the view extends across the Vienna Basin, encompassing the Hainburger Mountains, the Leitha Mountains, and the Schneeberg. Adjacent to the Jubiläumswarte is the Vienna Forest School, which is dedicated to environmental education.
