    The Steinertor is a preserved gate in the city of Krems an der Donau, a majestic testament to the town's rich history. Constructed in the late 15th century, the gate served as a crucial entry point, symbolizing protection and prosperity. In 1756, during the reign of Maria Theresa, it was refashioned in the Baroque style.Until the late 19th century, Krems was surrounded by a wall, and the Steinertor was one of the main gates. The gate features a number of inscriptions, including the AEIOU motto in memory of Frederick III. Three coat of arms from 1756 adorn the city entrance. The area around the gate is vibrant, with cobblestone streets, cafes, and shops. A memorial stone on the inner side commemorates a flood disaster that occurred in 1573.Krems and Stein, a neighboring historic district, have been closely linked since the 13th century, forming a unique urban ensemble recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2005, Krems celebrated the 700th anniversary of its city rights, and the Steinertor was restored to its original medieval appearance as much as possible.
