Discover more about Koliskowarte

Perched atop the Geißberg near Hollabrunn, the Koliskowarte is more than just an observation tower; it's a window into the heart of the Weinviertel. This 24-meter-high structure provides unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, a tapestry of rolling hills, vineyards, and charming villages that define this unique corner of Austria. Originally constructed in 1935, the Koliskowarte has a rich history as a local landmark. In 2016, it underwent a significant renovation, including a modern steel structure that increased its height and stability. This upgrade enhanced the viewing experience and ensured the tower's longevity. The tower is named after Rudolf Kolisko, mayor of Ober-Hollabrunn (1908-1919), who financed its construction. The tower's strategic location provides a 360-degree vista, allowing visitors to see as far as the Schneeberg and Ötscher mountains on clear days. The journey to the Koliskowarte is an experience in itself, with well-maintained hiking trails crisscrossing the Geißberg. One popular option is the "Hollabrunner Waldgeschichten" (Hollabrunn Forest Stories) adventure trail, starting at the Hubertus monument and winding through the forest with interactive exhibits. As you ascend the 152 steps of the tower, the landscape unfolds beneath you. The patchwork of vineyards highlights the region's viticultural heritage. The Weinviertel is Austria's largest wine-growing region, renowned for its crisp, fruity wines. The tower is open year-round with free admission. It's a symbol of the Weinviertel's history, culture, and natural beauty.
