The cityXpress is a modern, high-capacity gondola lift that whisks visitors from the center of Zell am See directly to the Schmittenhöhe mountain. Inaugurated in 2003, the cityXpress provides a swift, six-minute ascent to an elevation of 1,328 meters, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the mountain's attractions. In the summer, the upper terminus of the cityXpress provides access to scenic hiking trails, including a pleasant walk around the Plettsauberg reservoir. Families with children can easily reach the Plettsaukopf adventure playground, complete with water features and a play ship. During winter, the cityXpress transports skiers and snowboarders directly into the Schmittenhöhe ski resort. From the top, visitors can choose from a variety of slopes, ranging from easy blue runs to challenging black pistes. The Schmittenhöhe itself boasts a rich history, with the first cable car to the summit opening in 1927. The Schmittenhöhe offers panoramic views of over 30 peaks exceeding 3,000 meters, including the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain.
