Keşlə Məscidi, also known as the Shah Abbas Mosque, is a historical and architectural monument situated in the Keşlə settlement of Baku's Nizami district. Constructed in the 17th century under the patronage of the Safavid Persian king, Shah Abbas I, the mosque reflects the architectural traditions of the Shirvan-Absheron school. The mosque's exterior has a square shape, with each side measuring 12 meters. The layout features a central worship hall covered by a dome, a characteristic design found in Absheron mosques. Surrounding the main hall are smaller rooms with arched ceilings, contributing to the structure's square plan. The dome's base features 12 facets, symbolizing the Twelve Imams. The entrance portal is simple, lacking a stalactite semi-dome. Above the entrance is a stone inscription in Arabic. During the Soviet era, like many other religious sites, Keşlə Məscidi ceased operations. It was only in 1989 that the mosque was reopened for worship. Today, Keşlə Məscidi stands as a testament to Baku's rich cultural and religious heritage, offering a tranquil space for prayer and contemplation.
