4.6

The King Fahd Causeway, also known as Jisr al-Malik Fahd, is more than just a route; it's a symbol of the bond between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This impressive 25-kilometer (15.5-mile) engineering marvel connects Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with Al-Jasra in Bahrain, offering a unique travel experience across the Arabian Gulf. Opened in November 1986, the causeway comprises five bridges and seven embankments, including the artificial Middle Island, which houses customs and immigration facilities, mosques, gardens, and restaurants. The idea for the causeway dates back to 1954, with construction beginning in 1981. The project was a massive undertaking, costing US$800 million and involving extensive land reclamation. The causeway has significantly boosted the economies of both nations by facilitating trade and tourism. It consists of two roadways, each 11.6 meters wide with two lanes, and rests on 536 concrete pylons. The drive offers breathtaking views, especially during sunrise or sunset.
