Sitakunda Eco Park & Botanical Garden: A Natural Sanctuary

Sitakunda Eco Park & Botanical Garden, a sanctuary of natural beauty, is located in the Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong District in southeastern Bangladesh. Established in 1999, it holds the distinction of being the oldest eco-park in Bangladesh. Spanning 808 hectares within the evergreen Chandranath reserve forest, the park was created to conserve biodiversity and promote nature-based tourism. The park's landscape is characterized by undulating terrain, ranging from 25 to 400 meters in elevation, with natural forests, diverse flora and fauna, and numerous creeks and streams. Natural Gymnosperm tree species like podocarpus neriifolin, Gnetum, and Cycas can be found here. Wildlife includes monkeys, rabbits, and various bird species. Key attractions within the Eco Park include the Chandranath Temple, a sacred Hindu shrine atop Chandranath Hill, offering panoramic views. Waterfalls like Sohosrodhara and Suptadhara are particularly stunning during the rainy season. The park also features thematic gardens, a rose nursery, and a plantation of seasonal fruits. Visitors can also explore the park's rich cultural heritage through walks around the many temples and historic sites. While offering a serene escape, the park also plays a vital role in ecological conservation and education. It serves as an educational center for students and researchers studying Bangladesh's indigenous flora and participating in conservation programs.
