Discover more about Shah Amanat International Airport

Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP), located in Patenga, serves as the gateway to Chattogram, Bangladesh's bustling port city. Approximately 20 km from the city center, the airport is easily accessible and handles both domestic and international flights. Originally built in the early 1940s under British rule, the airport was known as Chittagong Airfield and played a crucial role as a supply point for the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After Bangladesh's independence, it became a domestic airport, primarily connecting Dhaka and Chattogram. In the mid-1990s, with the expansion of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, it officially gained international status. A major upgrade, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, took place between 1998 and 2000, modernizing the terminal and improving facilities. The airport was renamed in 2005 after the 18th-century Islamic saint, Shah Amanat. The airport features a single passenger terminal divided into international and domestic sections. It has a capacity of handling 1.5 million passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo annually. Ground transportation options include taxis, auto-rickshaws, and micro-buses. The airport also serves as a base for the Bangladesh Air Force and the Arirang Flying School.
