The Khulna University Central Mosque is more than just a place of worship; it's an architectural marvel and a spiritual cornerstone for Khulna University (KU). Officially opened on August 28, 2020, the mosque has quickly become an iconic landmark, blending seamlessly with the natural environment and reflecting a harmonious fusion of modern design and Islamic heritage. The mosque's story began in 2003 with an initiative by then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan, with the initial design crafted by Muhammad Ali Naki from the Architecture Discipline. Construction faced delays and remained stagnant for several years until 2014, when Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman resumed and completed the construction. Associate Professor Md. Sheikh Maruf Hossain finalized the design. Located at the heart of the campus in Krishna Nagar, the mosque spans one acre and can accommodate up to 3,000 worshippers. Its central location, near student dormitories, academic buildings, and the central library, makes it easily accessible. The mosque's design allows optimal natural ventilation, keeping the interior cool and comfortable. Intricate Islamic geometric patterns adorn the structure, enhancing its beauty. The mosque plays a vital role in promoting Islamic teachings and community engagement. It hosts daily prayers, religious lectures, and serves as a gathering place for students and faculty.
