Shaheed A.H.M. Kamaruzzaman Central Park & Zoo: A Green Escape in Rajshahi

Shaheed A.H.M. Kamaruzzaman Central Park & Zoo is a popular recreational spot in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, offering a green escape from the city. Spanning 33 acres, the park has a rich history, beginning as a horse racecourse during the British colonial period. After years of abandonment, Abul Hasnat Muhammad Qamaruzzaman took the initiative to convert the area into a park, which opened in 1972. The zoo was added in 1983, enhancing its appeal. The park is named after A.H.M. Qamaruzzaman, a national leader of Bangladesh. The park features a variety of trees, seasonal flower beds, and a butterfly garden. The zoo houses diverse animals, including Bengal tigers, deer, crocodiles, monkeys, snakes, and various bird species. Visitors can enjoy paddle boats on the lake, an amphitheater, picnic spots, and a Ferris wheel. The park is well-maintained with paved pathways, making it accessible for everyone. It's a favorite for school trips and family outings, offering both leisure and educational opportunities. During holidays and festivals, the park comes alive with large crowds. The park's design incorporates the natural contours of the area, with a small artificial hill providing scenic views of the Padma River. The park also includes artistic sculptures and a beautifully designed bridge, adding to its charm. The park is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm, with an entry fee of 25 Bangladeshi Taka per person.
