Discover more about Satchari National Park

Satchari National Park, nestled in the Habiganj district of Bangladesh, is a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts. Established in 2005, the park spans 243 hectares within the Raghunandan Hills, deriving its name, meaning 'Seven Streams' in Bengali, from the network of waterways that sustain its vibrant ecosystem. Once known as Raghunandan Hill Reserve Forest, Satchari emerged as a protected area following the 1974 Wild Life Preservation Act. The park boasts a rich biodiversity, showcasing a blend of tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. Over 200 species of trees, including Garjan, Chapalish, and Jarul, create a dense canopy, providing shelter for a myriad of creatures. The undergrowth is equally diverse, with bamboo groves and cane thickets adding to the forest's tapestry. Satchari is home to 24 species of mammals, 149 species of birds, 18 species of reptiles and 6 species of amphibians. Lucky visitors might spot endangered Western Hoolock Gibbons, Pig-tailed Macaques, or Capped Langurs swinging through the trees. Birdwatchers can delight in spotting colorful species like the Red Junglefowl, Red-headed Trogon, and Oriental Pied Hornbill. Visitors can explore three developed trails, including a half-hour trail to Tiprapara, a tribal village, a one-hour trail showcasing the park's flora and fauna, and a three-hour trail leading to the Agar forest. Satchari offers a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the region, as the Tipra ethnic community resides within the park. Engage respectfully with the community and learn about their traditions intertwined with the forest's resources.
