Sonarong Jora Moth, located in the village of Sonarong in Munshiganj, Bangladesh, is a captivating archaeological site that offers a glimpse into the region's rich history and cultural heritage. The term 'Jora Moth' refers to the site's twin temples, which stand side by side, showcasing a unique architectural style. Constructed in the 19th century by a Hindu merchant named Rupchand, the larger temple is dedicated to Shiva, built in 1843, while the smaller one is dedicated to Kali, built in 1886. The temples feature intricate carvings and designs, reflecting the traditional craftsmanship of the era. The larger temple is about 15 meters high. The towers are adorned with leaf motifs and blind alcoves. Surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil pond, the temple complex provides a serene environment for visitors to explore and reflect on the historical and cultural significance of the site. Although no longer functioning as a place of active worship, Sonarong Jora Moth remains a peaceful sanctuary, inviting visitors to appreciate its magnificent cultural legacy. The site is currently under the care of the Directorate of Archaeology.
