Getting there

Walking

From the cruise terminal, the city center of Bridgetown is approximately a 15-minute walk along the clearly marked waterfront path. This pedestrian-friendly route provides easy access to the main shopping areas and historical attractions. Note that the walk can be hot during the day, so bring water.

Public Transport

The Princess Alice Bus Terminal is located about 1 km (3 blocks) from the cruise port, behind Pelican Village. From there, buses run regularly to various destinations including Holetown and St. Lawrence Gap. You will need to purchase tokens at the terminal. A shuttle service is available from the cruise terminal to Bridgetown for $2 US per person.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available outside the cruise terminal. A taxi ride to downtown Bridgetown typically takes about 10 minutes. Taxi fares are regulated, but it's essential to confirm the rate with the driver before starting your trip. Fares to Bridgetown city center should not cost more than €4.80 (BBD 10). A 5km ride will cost about 39 BBD. There may be a surcharge for extra luggage.

The Bridgetown Cruise Terminal, officially opened in 1994, is a modern facility that serves as the main gateway for cruise passengers visiting Barbados. Located a mile west of downtown Bridgetown, the terminal offers a range of amenities including air-conditioning, a tourist information center, duty-free shops, and local craft stalls.Originally known as the Deep Water Harbour and opened in 1961, the port has evolved into an award-winning facility that can accommodate up to six cruise ships simultaneously. The terminal reflects Barbadian culture with traditional wooden pushcarts selling crafts and souvenirs. Visitors can find a variety of goods, from clothing and leather items to jewelry and liquor.Bridgetown itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is steeped in history and offers a mix of British colonial and West African architecture. Established in 1628, the city was a key hub for the trade of cotton, tobacco, and sugarcane. Today, it boasts attractions such as National Heroes Square, St. Michael's Cathedral, and the Nidhe Israel Synagogue. The nearby Carlisle Bay offers opportunities for snorkeling and diving among shipwrecks.
