Independence Square is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from most points within Bridgetown. If you are near the Parliament Buildings or National Heroes Square, simply walk south towards the Careenage (the waterfront). Independence Square is situated along the waterfront, adjacent to the Chamberlain Bridge and Independence Arch. The walk is generally flat and takes about 5-10 minutes from nearby landmarks.
Public Transport
From anywhere in Bridgetown, local buses frequently stop near Independence Square. Look for buses displaying 'Bridgetown' on the front. The standard fare is BBD $3.50, payable in cash. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Independence Square, such as Woolworth or Fairchild Street Terminal, both a short walk away. Ensure you have the exact fare in Barbados Dollars, as change is not given on Transport Board buses.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis are readily available throughout Bridgetown. A short taxi ride to Independence Square from within the city typically costs between BBD $10 to $15. Always confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey. There are two taxi stands in Bridgetown, one in Lower Broad Street and one in Independence Square.
Driving
If driving, head towards Bridgetown. From any location in Saint Michael, take the main road leading to the capital. Once you reach the city, look for signs directing you to Independence Square. Parking is available nearby, including the Independence Square Car Park, but be sure to check for any parking fees. Parking charges apply in the Independence Square Car Park and other designated areas in Bridgetown. Note that traffic in central Bridgetown can be congested, especially during peak hours.
