    If you are already in central Bridgetown, St. Michael's Cathedral is easily accessible on foot. From National Heroes Square, head east on Broad Street, then turn left onto St. Michael's Row. The cathedral will be a short distance ahead on your left. This is a pleasant walk, allowing you to enjoy the local shops and sights along the way. No costs are associated with walking.

    To reach St. Michael's Cathedral via public transport, catch any bus heading to Bridgetown. Buses frequently travel throughout Saint Michael, and you can find them at various bus stops. Once you're in Bridgetown, disembark at the nearest stop to St Michael Row. From there, it's a short walk to the cathedral. The bus fare is BBD 3.50 (approximately USD 1.75). Ensure you have local currency, as foreign coins are not accepted on Transport Board buses.

St. Michael's Cathedral, located on St. Michael's Row in Bridgetown, is a significant landmark embodying Barbados' rich history and enduring faith. Originally consecrated in 1665, the site has evolved from a simple wooden parish church to the grand coral stone cathedral that stands today.The first St. Michael's Parish Church was a modest wooden structure built around 1628-1630, but was replaced in 1665 with a larger wooden church. A devastating hurricane in 1780 destroyed this second structure, leading to the construction of the current cathedral, completed in 1789. The construction was funded in part by a controversial lottery.In 1825, St. Michael's Parish Church became St. Michael's Cathedral, marking a new chapter as the central Anglican church in Barbados and the Leeward Islands. The cathedral's architecture blends Gothic and Georgian styles, featuring pointed arches and stained-glass windows. Inside, a barrel-vaulted ceiling and mahogany pulpit add to its grandeur. The Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, added in 1938, features unique wallaba heartwood shingles.The churchyard is the final resting place of prominent Barbadians, including National Hero Samuel Jackman Prescod and Prime Ministers Grantley and Tom Adams. Today, St. Michael's Cathedral remains an active place of worship, hosting services and community events. Visitors can explore its hallowed halls, admire its architecture, and reflect on its historical significance.
