Barbados Concorde Experience: A Supersonic Adventure

Discover the iconic Concorde at Barbados: Explore aviation history and step inside the legendary supersonic jet.

4.2

The Barbados Concorde Experience offers a captivating journey into the world of supersonic flight and the history of aviation in Barbados. This unique museum, located a stone's throw from Grantley Adams International Airport in Christ Church, is home to the British Airways Concorde G-BOAE, also known as Alpha Echo. This iconic aircraft, on loan to the island, stands as a testament to Barbados' significant role in the Concorde's success, being one of only four regular destinations alongside London, Paris, and New York. Upon entering the museum, visitors are immediately struck by the sheer size and elegance of the Concorde. The experience begins with an informative guided tour that delves into the aircraft's fascinating history, its operational years, and its significance in the aviation industry. Guests will discover the luxurious interior of the Concorde, complete with the elegant seating and amenities that once catered to elite travelers. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to engage with the history of flying, including the science behind supersonic travel and the environmental challenges it presented. The Concorde first came to Barbados in 1977 to take Her Majesty the Queen back to England. Barbados was privileged to be one of the primary flight destinations because it was the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and also had the necessary infrastructure to accommodate large planes. After the Concorde fleet was retired in 2003 British Airways loaned Concorde G-BOAE to the people of Barbados in recognition of the role that the island played in Concorde's success.
