Bushy Park Barbados, located in the parish of St. Philip, stands as the premier motorsport facility in the English-speaking Caribbean. More than just a racing circuit, it's a vibrant hub that blends high-octane thrills with Barbadian culture, offering a diverse range of experiences for motorsport enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. The track's origins trace back to 1971 when it was first constructed by sugar plantation workers. Designed by local rally and racing ace, Ralph 'Bizzy' Williams, the original 0.808-mile (1.300 km) course quickly became a central point for Caribbean racing, drawing large crowds to its events. For three decades, Bushy Park thrived as a grassroots racing venue, fostering a passionate community of drivers and fans. By the mid-2000s, however, the facility had fallen into disrepair, with a deteriorating track surface and aging infrastructure. Recognizing its potential, Bizzy Williams returned to spearhead a major redevelopment project. In 2013, after years of planning and consultation, work began to transform Bushy Park into a world-class racing destination. The revitalized Bushy Park officially reopened in 2014, boasting a 2.01-kilometre International Circuit built to meet FIA Grade 3 requirements. Since its reopening, Bushy Park has hosted numerous international events, including the Top Gear Festival Barbados, the Race of Champions, and the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. These events have drawn competitors and spectators from around the world, solidifying Bushy Park's reputation as a leading racing destination. Visitors can also enjoy karting and driving experiences. Bushy Park also serves as a venue for community engagement and cultural events. While primarily known for motorsports, the location has a rich history tied to the island's past. Originally part of the Bushy Park and Pilgrim estate, also known as the Pilgrim estate, it was once owned by Joshua Gittens in 1819. Records indicate that enslaved people were connected to the estate, highlighting a complex history that predates its modern-day incarnation as a racing circuit.
