Paleologus emigrated to Barbados and became a respected member of the community; he is buried at the nearby St. John's Parish Church. The great house, originally a plantation, bears witness to the island's sugar and rum industries, which shaped Barbados' economy for centuries.The architecture of Clifton Hall reflects the evolution of styles over centuries. The mansion comprises two buildings seamlessly joined together. The older section, dating back to the 17th century, showcases a medieval layout, while the newer addition, constructed in the 18th century, embodies the elegance of Caribbean Georgian design.
