From anywhere in Bridgetown or the surrounding areas, the most economical way to reach Independence Square is by bus. Several bus routes converge in Bridgetown at two main terminals: Fairchild Street Terminal and Princess Alice Terminal. From either terminal, Independence Square is a short walk. Buses cost BBD$3.50 per ride, payable in cash (Barbadian dollars only) into a fare box. Exact change is required on Transport Board buses. Mini buses and ZR vans also service the area and accept US dollars at a rate of USD$1 = BBD$2, with change typically given in Barbadian dollars.

Independence Square is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from most points within Bridgetown. If you are near the Parliament Buildings or National Heroes Square, simply walk south towards the Careenage (the waterfront). Independence Square is situated along the waterfront, adjacent to the Chamberlain Bridge and Independence Arch. The walk is generally flat and takes about 5-10 minutes from nearby landmarks.
