Speightstown Mural: A Tapestry of Barbadian Life

Located on the north wall of Jordan's Supermarket facing the beach, the Speightstown Mural is a must-see attraction in Barbados. This impressive mural, spanning 80 feet in length and 20 feet in height, uses the 'trompe l'oeil' technique to create a stunning three-dimensional illusion. Designed by Barbadian artist Don Small in collaboration with muralist John Pugh, the mural serves as a visual chronicle of Barbados, weaving together elements of its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical milestones.The mural depicts scenes from Harrison's Cave, one of the island's most famous natural attractions, blending seamlessly into historical representations of the raising of Barbados' flag at Independence. Green monkeys, native to the island, overlook traditional chattel houses, while depictions of the original Amerindian inhabitants pay homage to the island's earliest settlers.
