Handelsbeurs: Ghent's Historic Concert Hall

The Handelsbeurs, located on Kouter 29 in Ghent, is a celebrated concert hall with a rich history. Originally built in the 19th century as a stock exchange, the building has been transformed into a premier venue for musical performances and cultural events. The Handelsbeurs, also known as HA Concerts, stands as a testament to Ghent's vibrant arts scene. Throughout its history, the building has served various functions, including a shooting range, guildhall, main guardhouse (500-1770), horse post office and post hotel (1776-1850), and a meeting place for commerce and industry. In 1997, the Noordstarfonds decided to renovate the Handelsbeurs, equipping it with state-of-the-art stage infrastructure. The hall was inaugurated on September 27, 2002, and now features moving stage elements that allow the space to transform from a standing room to a classic theater in just twenty minutes. Today, the Handelsbeurs hosts a wide array of events, from classical symphonies to modern indie bands, jazz concerts, global music events, rock performances, and special shows for children. The venue is known for its intimate setting, allowing audiences to connect deeply with performers.
