Houtopia: A World of Senses in Houffalize

Houtopia, nestled in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes in Houffalize, is a unique leisure and sensory discovery park designed for children and families. The center aims to help children grow, develop, and flourish by rediscovering their senses through 80 sensory experiments. The indoor space, fully renovated in spring 2018, features a variety of activities, experiments, and sensory manipulations. Visitors can explore a multitude of sensory experiences designed to promote better understanding of how our senses work. These experiences serve as a starting point for visitors to become aware of their own way of functioning, identify strengths and weaknesses, and avoid impulsive reactions. Outside, a giant playground awaits with an adventure trail, climbing structures, a 30-meter slide, and a musical area. The outdoor play area overlooks the Ourthe river, providing a scenic backdrop for fun and exploration. Houtopia is designed to be inclusive, catering to children from 18 months to 12 years, families, school groups, and individuals with disabilities. The park also has facilities such as outdoor catering, a shop, and parking. Houtopia was created as a constructive means of dealing with the town's distressing past during the Second World War, supporting children's rights and civic education.
