    Getting There

    Train

    Take a train to Gendron-Celles station. From Dinant, trains run hourly and the journey takes approximately 11 minutes, costing €3 - €6. From Brussels, take a train to Namur, then transfer to Gendron-Celles. From Gendron-Celles station, walk 1.2 km to the reserve. Turn left out of the station and follow the Lesse River on the right bank along the GR126 long-distance hiking trail.

    Car

    Drive to Rue du Camp Romain 79, 5500 Dinant. From the E411 motorway, take exit 20, route Charlemagne (N97), then exit Dinant and follow signs for Furfooz. Parking is available in front of the reserve reception chalet. Alternative parking is located at the Furfooz cemetery (1.8 km walk) or the Gendron-Celles train station (1.2 km walk). Parking is free.

    Bus

    From Dinant, take bus line 10 towards Furfooz. The bus journey takes about 15 minutes. Get off at the 'Furfooz' stop, and from there, it's a short 10-minute walk to the entrance of the Nature Reserve. Bus fare is approximately €2 - €3.

    Local tips

    Wear sturdy shoes suitable for muddy conditions, especially after rain, as the trails can be slippery.
    Reservations are compulsory on weekends, during school holidays and on public holidays.
    Bring a camera to capture the stunning views of the Lesse River Valley and the unique geological formations.

    Furfooz Nature Reserve, nestled in the Lesse River Valley near Dinant, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance. This 50-hectare park invites visitors to explore landscapes shaped by the Lesse River over millennia, creating caves and sinkholes that have served as human dwellings since prehistoric times. The park's well-marked 4km hiking trail leads you through 15 remarkable sites, including the reconstructed Roman bath, offering a glimpse into the area's Roman past. Discover the remains of a medieval fortress and explore caves with intriguing names like the Grand Duke's Hole and the Smoking Hole. The Lesse River disappears underground, creating an underground lake at least 40 meters deep. Furfooz has been inhabited from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. The Romans built a fortress and baths here, with the baths being completely rebuilt in 1958. Nature lovers will appreciate the chalky lawns, orchids and local insects. Visitors can enjoy a break at La Flobette, a snack bar on the banks of the Lesse. The park is open daily from April 1 to November 1. Reservations are required on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
