    Discover more about Elisengarten

Elisengarten, a serene park in Aachen's city center, provides a tranquil escape for locals and tourists alike. Created between 1852 and 1854 based on designs by Prussian garden master Peter Joseph Lenné, the park's history stretches back much further. Archaeological excavations have revealed evidence of human activity on the site dating back to the Neolithic period. Roman-era structures, including accommodations for bathers using the nearby thermal springs, were also discovered. Throughout the centuries, the area has undergone many transformations. In the early Middle Ages, the Adelgundiskapelle chapel was built in the northwest area of today's Elisengarten. Later, an Ursuline convent's garden formed the nucleus of the park. In the early 19th century, a presidential building was constructed on the site of the former chapel. Today, Elisengarten is known for its meticulously maintained flowerbeds, inviting pathways, and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can relax on benches, enjoy a picnic, or simply appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. The park also features the Kreislauf des Geldes fountain by Karl-Henning Seemann. The Archaeological Showcase provides a glimpse into Aachen's past, displaying artifacts discovered during excavations.
