Getting There

Walking
Start from the central square of Ypres, known as the Markt. Face the Cloth Hall (Lakenhalle) and walk towards the Menin Gate. Continue straight along the road until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the N332, which is also known as the Ieperstraat. Continue on this road for approximately 3.5 kilometers. You will pass by fields and some signs indicating the way to Mesen. After about 3.5 kilometers, you’ll come to another roundabout. Take the first exit onto the N314. The Messines Ridge NZ Memorial will be on your left after about 1 kilometer. You can easily spot it as it is a significant landmark in the area.

Rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Ypres. Start at the central square (Markt) and head towards the Menin Gate. Turn left onto the N332 (Ieperstraat) and continue straight for about 3.5 kilometers. As you ride, look for directional signs to Mesen. After reaching the roundabout, take the second exit onto the N314. Continue on this road for about 1 kilometer, and you will find the Messines Ridge NZ Memorial on your left. The ride offers a scenic view of the countryside and is a pleasant way to reach the memorial.

From the central square in Ypres, walk to the Ypres train station, which is about a 15-minute walk. At the station, take a train towards Mesen. Check the train schedule for the next departure. Once you arrive at Mesen station, exit the station and head north towards the N314. Turn left and walk about 1 kilometer along the N314. The Messines Ridge NZ Memorial will be on your right-hand side. Make sure to check the return train schedule in advance to plan your trip back to Ypres.
