Walking
If you're starting from the center of San Ignacio, head east on Burns Avenue towards the intersection with the George Price Highway (also known as the Western Highway). This is the main road that runs through San Ignacio. When you reach the intersection, turn left onto the George Price Highway. After you turn, continue walking along the highway. You'll walk past various local shops and restaurants. Keep an eye out for the Santa Elena Town Sign, which is located on the side of the highway at Mile 68. It should be visible on your left side as you walk. The sign is a popular photo opportunity, so be sure to bring your camera!
Bicycle
To reach the Santa Elena Town Sign by bicycle, start from the San Ignacio town center and ride east on Burns Avenue. At the intersection with the George Price Highway, make a left turn onto the highway. As you cycle along the highway, be cautious of traffic. The Santa Elena Town Sign will be located on your left at Mile 68. Depending on your speed, it should take about 10-15 minutes to reach the sign from the town center. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local cycling safety rules.
Public Transport
If you prefer to take public transport, you can catch a bus or a shared taxi (known locally as a 'taxi colectivo') from the main bus terminal in San Ignacio. Look for a bus heading towards Belmopan or Santa Elena. Inform the driver or the conductor that you want to get off at the Santa Elena Town Sign. The journey should take around 10 minutes. Once you arrive, simply get off when you see the sign on the side of the road. This is a cost-effective and convenient way to reach your destination.
