Car
If you are driving, head to Maya Center on the Southern Highway (Mile 12). From Punta Gorda, take the Southern Highway northward for about 30 minutes. Keep an eye out for the sign indicating Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary on your right. After turning onto the road leading to the sanctuary, continue for approximately 4 miles until you reach the entrance. A small fee may be charged upon entry, so be prepared for that.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Punta Gorda heading north on the Southern Highway. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Maya Center (Mile 12). The journey takes around 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at Maya Center, you can either walk to the sanctuary (about 4 miles, which may take about 1 hour) or try to arrange a ride with local taxis or ask local vendors if they can assist in getting to the sanctuary entrance. Always confirm the fare before the ride.
Taxi
For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Punta Gorda or Maya Center. This option gives you the flexibility to leave at your convenience. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand. The taxi will take you directly to the sanctuary entrance, which is about 4 miles from Maya Center. Expect to pay around $20-$30 BZD for this trip.
