Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Cotonou, head east on Boulevard de la République. Continue straight for about 30 km until you reach the town of Abomey-Calavi. From Abomey-Calavi, take the Route Nationale 2 towards Ouidah. After approximately 20 km, you will see signs for Lake Aheme. Follow the signs and turn onto the dirt road leading towards the lake. Parking is available near the entrance.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Lake Aheme using public transportation, start from Cotonou's main bus station (Gare Routière). Look for a bus heading towards Ouidah. The fare is around 500 CFA francs. Once you reach Ouidah, transfer to a local taxi-brousse (shared taxi) heading towards Abomey-Calavi. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will drop you off at the nearest point to Lake Aheme. The taxi-brousse fare is approximately 300 CFA francs. From there, you may need to walk or hire a motorcycle taxi (around 1000 CFA francs) to reach the lake.

  • Motorcycle Taxi

    If you are already in the vicinity of Lake Aheme, consider hiring a motorcycle taxi for a more direct route. Simply flag down a motorcycle taxi (also called 'zemidjan') and tell the driver you want to go to Lake Aheme. Negotiate the fare, which typically should not exceed 1000 CFA francs from nearby towns.
