Car Rental
From Gasa, rent a car or hire a local driver. Start your journey by heading south on the main road towards Punakha. After about 30 kilometers, look for the junction that leads to Karshong Village. The road to Jakarlung Valley is well-marked. Continue on this road for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Jakarlung Valley. Ensure that your car is suitable for mountain roads, as some sections can be rough.
Public Bus
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Gasa to Punakha. Buses usually depart from the main bus stand in Gasa in the morning. Once you reach Punakha, you will need to find a local bus or taxi that goes to Karshong Village. The taxi ride will take about 30 minutes. Once in Karshong, ask locals for directions to Jakarlung Valley, which is approximately 5 kilometers from the village. Be prepared for a small fee if you choose to hire a local guide for the last stretch.
Taxi Service
Consider hiring a taxi directly from Gasa to Jakarlung Valley for convenience. Negotiate the fare upfront; it may cost around 2,500-3,000 Ngultrum depending on your bargaining skills. The taxi will take you straight to the valley entrance, which is about 45 kilometers from Gasa. Make sure to confirm the return trip arrangements with the driver, as it may be challenging to find a taxi for the return journey.
Walking/Hiking
For adventurous travelers, consider hiking from Karshong Village to Jakarlung Valley. Once you reach Karshong, you can ask locals for the hiking trail that leads to the valley. The hike is approximately 5 kilometers and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water and snacks, as facilities may be limited.
