Getting There
-
Hiking
From the center of Paro, head towards the Paro Dzong, a prominent landmark in the area. Once you reach the Dzong, follow the signs towards the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) trailhead. The hike will take you through scenic pine forests, and after about 2 hours of trekking, you will reach the viewpoint for the monastery. Continue on the path for another hour, and you will arrive at the monastery itself. From there, take the path that leads to the back of the monastery, which eventually connects to the trail leading to The Tigers Nest Camp located at Nechu Phu. This final section may take about 30-45 minutes of additional hiking.
-
Guided Tour
Consider joining a guided tour that includes a visit to the Tigers Nest Camp. Many local tour operators in Paro offer packages that include transportation to the trailhead and guided hikes to the monastery and camp. This option ensures you have an experienced guide who can help navigate the trails and provide insights about the local culture and environment.
-
Horse Riding
If you prefer not to hike the entire way, you can hire a horse at the Taktsang Monastery trailhead. Horses can take you up to a certain point near the monastery, significantly reducing your hiking time. After arriving at the monastery, you can continue hiking to The Tigers Nest Camp from there. Make sure to ask the horse handlers about the best routes and how to connect to the camp.
