The Majestic Buddha Dordenma Statue: A Spiritual Beacon in Thimphu

Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Punakha, head towards the main road (Punakha-Thimphu Highway). Walk north until you reach the intersection with the Punakha Dzong road. Continue straight on this road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the bridge over the Mo Chhu River. Cross the bridge and continue on the same road. After crossing the bridge, follow the signs towards Thimphu. As you approach the outskirts of Punakha, look for the bus stop where local buses heading to Thimphu and other destinations frequently stop.

• Bus

  At the bus stop, board a local bus heading to Thimphu. The journey typically takes around 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic. Inform the conductor that you wish to get off at Kuenselphodrang, which is the area where the Buddha Dordenma Statue is located. Once the bus arrives at Kuenselphodrang, disembark and follow the signs leading to the statue. The statue is a short uphill walk from the bus drop-off point.

• Walking

  After getting off the bus, proceed along the marked path leading to the Buddha Dordenma Statue. The path is well-maintained and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. It will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the statue from the bus stop. As you walk, you will see directional signs that will guide you along the way.
