Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Wangdue Phodrang, start at the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Head south on the main road (the Bhutanese National Highway) towards Punakha. After approximately 10-15 minutes, you will reach the bridge over the Punakha River. Cross the bridge and continue on the path that leads to Punakha Dzong. The walk from the bridge to the Dzong will take about 20-30 minutes. As you approach, you will be able to see the majestic Punakha Dzong ahead. Once you arrive, you will find entrance signs that guide you through the historical site.

• Bicycle

  If you have access to a bicycle, you can ride from Wangdue Phodrang to Punakha Dzong. Begin at Wangdue Phodrang Dzong and cycle south on the main highway (Bhutanese National Highway). After crossing the bridge over the Punakha River, continue straight ahead. The ride should take approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on your cycling speed. Make sure to take in the scenic views along the way, and be cautious of the traffic. Upon reaching the Dzong, park your bicycle in designated areas before exploring the site.

• Local Transport (Bus or Pickup)

  From Wangdue Phodrang, you can take a local bus or shared pickup taxi heading towards Punakha. Head to the Wangdue Phodrang bus terminal and look for buses that display 'Punakha' on their front. The ride will take around 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Punakha, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the Dzong. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions, as it is a popular destination.
