The exact date of its founding remains unknown, but it existed before 1536 and was initially referred to as Zalužje. The monastery's current name is derived from a nearby river. Throughout its history, Gomionica Monastery has been rebuilt an astonishing 13 times after being burned, pillaged, and desecrated. Despite these challenges, it has always been restored, continuing its spiritual mission. The monastery follows the Raška architectural style, evident in its intricate facade.
