Discover more about Dabar

The Dabar River, located near Sanski Most in the Una-Sana Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a captivating natural wonder. This short river, only about 3.5 km long, originates from the Dabarska Pećina (Dabar Cave), also known as Beaver Cave, a significant karst system featuring multiple caves and underground water streams. The cave itself is a geological and tourist attraction, showcasing intricate cave systems and evidence of prehistoric human occupation. The river's source, Dabarsko Vrelo, emerges directly beneath the cave's entrance, creating a spectacular sight, especially during floods or after heavy rains when the upper cave levels reactivate. The clear, cold waters of the Dabar support unique aquatic life, including the Olm (Proteus anguinus), an aquatic salamander adapted to the dark underground environment. The surrounding area is ideal for nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking and exploring the untouched wilderness. Visitors can follow the Redak road from Sanski Most and then hike a short trail to reach the cave entrance. The Dabar River flows into the Sana River, which gives Sanski Most its name, meaning 'bridge over Sana river'.
