Discover more about Kriva ćuprija

Kriva Ćuprija, meaning "Crooked Bridge," is a small stone bridge located in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1558 during Ottoman rule, it is the oldest single-arch stone bridge in Mostar. The bridge was built by Ottoman architect Ćejvan Ketoda. Some believe it served as a test model for the more ambitious Stari Most (Old Bridge) built across the Neretva River. Kriva Ćuprija gracefully spans the Radobolja River with its single, slightly asymmetrical arch. The bridge is made of precisely cut Tenelija stone. Measuring just 8.56 meters in diameter, it connects the banks of the Radobolja and is approached by stone steps. Despite its small size, the bridge was an important crossing point connecting the trading part of the Old Town to Herzegovina and Dalmatia. In December 1999, Kriva Ćuprija was destroyed by a flood. However, it was reconstructed in 2003 with special attention given to reinforcing the riverbanks. Today, Kriva Ćuprija is a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the Old Town of Mostar. Visitors can stroll across the bridge, explore the charming cobblestone streets nearby, and soak in the atmosphere of this historic city.
