Getting there

Walking

From the Kazungula border post in Zambia, the bridge is easily accessible on foot. A pedestrian walkway allows you to walk across the 923-meter span. Be prepared for a lengthy walk, especially during the hot season. Remember that border formalities are handled at the One-Stop Border Post on either the Zambian or Botswana side, depending on your direction of travel. There is no cost for walking across the bridge.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Kazungula, Zambia, to take you to the bridge and across to the Botswana side. A taxi from Kazungula town to the border post and across the bridge typically costs between 100-200 Zambian Kwacha. Ensure the taxi has the necessary permits to cross the border. Prices may vary, so it's advisable to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

Public Transport

Shared taxis and minibuses (combis) operate between Kasane (Botswana) and Kazungula (Zambia). From Kasane, a shared taxi to the Kazungula border post costs around 8 Pula. The combis will drop you off at the border, from where you can proceed to cross the bridge. Remember to factor in additional costs for border fees and potential taxi fares on the other side.

Overview

The Kazungula Bridge is more than just a structure; it's a symbol of unity and progress connecting Zambia and Botswana. Spanning the Zambezi River, this 923-meter-long road and rail bridge replaced a long-relied-upon ferry, easing travel and trade between the two nations. The bridge's construction, completed in May 2021, was a collaborative effort to improve regional integration and reduce border delays. The bridge's design is noteworthy as it curves to avoid directly crossing into Zimbabwean or Namibian territory, taking advantage of the unique meeting point of the four countries in the region. This strategic design ensures smooth passage and reflects the cooperative spirit of the project. The Kazungula Bridge features two traffic lanes, pedestrian walkways, and a single railway line, with the aim of future connection to the Mosetse–Kazungula–Livingstone Railway.Beyond its functional aspects, the Kazungula Bridge offers stunning views of the Zambezi River and the surrounding landscapes. It serves as a gateway to various attractions, including the nearby Chobe National Park in Botswana, known for its abundant wildlife. The bridge also streamlines access to Livingstone, Zambia, and the majestic Victoria Falls. The Kazungula Bridge stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision for regional development.
