Kalahari Plains Camp is a secluded safari camp nestled in the heart of Botswana's Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), a protected area roughly the size of Switzerland. The camp is situated on the edge of an enormous pan, offering guests panoramic views of the Kalahari's vast expanse and dramatic skies. This remote location provides an unparalleled sense of tranquility and immersion in the African wilderness.The camp features eight en-suite canvas chalets, including a family unit, each designed for comfort and minimal environmental impact. The chalets are built on raised decks to maximize airflow and offer private sleep-out platforms on the roof for stargazing. Insulated canvas walls help regulate temperatures, ensuring a comfortable stay even during the Kalahari's extreme weather conditions. The main camp area includes a lounge, dining area, bar, and a refreshing swimming pool with a deck, all designed to take in the sweeping views.Kalahari Plains Camp offers a range of activities to explore the unique Kalahari environment. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles provide opportunities to spot the Kalahari's diverse wildlife, including the famed black-maned lions, cheetahs, and various antelope species. Guided bush walks with San Bushmen trackers offer insights into their traditional culture and survival skills. The camp is also committed to sustainable tourism practices, utilizing solar power for electricity and hot water and supporting local conservation efforts.

    Getting There

    Air Travel

    The most convenient way to reach Kalahari Plains Camp is by flying into its private airstrip, located approximately an hour's flight from Maun. Wilderness Air and other charter companies offer scheduled and private flights to the camp. From the airstrip, it's a short 30-minute drive to the camp. Charter flights from Maun to Kalahari Plains Camp range from $300 - $600 USD per person.

    Self-Drive

    While it is possible to drive to Kalahari Plains Camp in a 4x4 vehicle, it is not recommended due to the remoteness of the area and challenging road conditions. The drive from Maun takes approximately 6 hours. Travelers should be experienced in driving in sandy conditions and equipped with appropriate navigation tools and supplies. There are no fuel stations or services available within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, so it is essential to carry sufficient fuel and supplies for the entire trip. Entry fees to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve are approximately 120 BWP per person per day, plus 50 BWP per vehicle per day.
