The landscape is characterized by vast, open grasslands, punctuated by ancient riverbeds, scrub bushes, and dwarfed trees. During the rainy season (December to April), the northern reaches of the reserve teem with wildlife, including large herds of springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, and other grazers, closely followed by predators such as the black-maned lion and cheetah. The CKGR provides a sanctuary for a diverse array of wildlife, including the black-maned lion, leopard, hyena, giraffe, eland, and hartebeest. Birdwatchers will find delight in the migratory species that flock to the area between December and March.
