From the Brasília Bus Station (Rodoviária), take a bus or metro to the Zona Cívico-Administrativa. From there, Praça do Cruzeiro is a short walk away. A single bus ticket costs around R$ 5.54 , and a metro ticket is R$ 5.50. The bus and metro provide an affordable way to reach the square.
Taxi/Ride-Sharing

Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber are readily available in Brasília. A taxi ride from the city center (e.g., near the TV Tower) to Praça do Cruzeiro typically costs between R$40 to R$50. Ensure the driver resets the taximeter before starting the trip. Note that fares may be higher at night and on Sundays.

Praça do Cruzeiro holds a special place in the history of Brasília, Brazil. Situated at the highest point in the area chosen for the new capital, at 1,172 meters above sea level, it was a prime location to oversee the construction of Brasília. In April 1955, the area was selected as the site for building the new capital. The square derives its name and significance from the large cross ('cruzeiro' in Portuguese) that stands there. In May 1957, the first mass was celebrated on this site, marking a pivotal moment in the city's establishment. The original wooden cross is now permanently displayed inside the Catedral Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Brasília. The square's design is attributed to urban planner Lúcio Costa, with contributions from architect Oscar Niemeyer. Over the years, Praça do Cruzeiro has served as a gathering place for political demonstrations, public celebrations, and cultural events. Today, visitors can enjoy the panoramic views, relax in the green spaces, and reflect on the historical importance of this location.
