Waterfall Buracão: A Canyon's Hidden Cascade

Waterfall Buracão is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Chapada Diamantina, located in the municipality of Ibicoara. The waterfall is set within the Espalhado Municipal Natural Park, known for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes. The main attraction is the 85-meter high Buracão Waterfall, which dramatically cascades into a deep canyon. The journey to the waterfall is an adventure in itself. The 6 km round-trip hike is considered moderate, involving trekking through canyons, crossing rivers and streams, and swimming or floating through narrow rock corridors to reach the falls. The trail passes through the Brazilian Cerrado vegetation, offering scenic views along the way. Along the way to Waterfall Buracão, you can also see the Recanto Verde Waterfall. Visitors can swim in the natural pool at the base of the falls, an unforgettable experience. It's essential to hire a certified local guide for safety and navigation. The ideal time to visit is during the dry season, from May to October, when the weather is pleasant and the trails are more accessible. However, the rainy season (November to April) can create a more dramatic flow, though trails may be slippery. To see the falls from the front, there are two options: cross a footbridge and walk along narrow paths, always clinging to the wall; or swim (life jackets are available).
