The Mural Lenda das Cataratas, situated in Foz do Iguaçu's Praça da Paz, is a stunning mosaic that brings to life the legend of the Iguaçu Falls. Created by Miguel Héctor Hachen, a Neo-Guarani artist, the mural tells the story of Naipi and Tarobá, two indigenous lovers whose fate is intertwined with the creation of the falls. According to the legend, Naipi was a beautiful indigenous woman destined to be sacrificed to the serpent god M'Boy. Tarobá, a brave warrior, rescued her, and they attempted to escape by canoe. In a fit of rage, M'Boy contorted his body, creating a massive fissure in the river, forming the Iguaçu Falls and condemning the lovers to an eternal embrace beneath the cascading waters. The mural, inaugurated in December 2018, spans 165 square meters and is made of meticulously arranged mosaics that illustrate the fauna, flora, and characters of this captivating tale. A shallow reflecting pool surrounds the mural, with plans for a waterfall feature to further evoke the spirit of the Iguaçu Falls. Praça da Paz, where the mural is located, is a public square that hosts various cultural events and celebrations, including Chinese New Year festivities and local artisan fairs.
