Parque das Aves: A Bird Sanctuary Amidst Iguazu's Majesty

Nestled close to the world-renowned Iguazu Falls, Parque das Aves offers a vibrant immersion into the avian wonders of Brazil and beyond. Founded in 1994 by Anna and Dennis Croukamp, the park began with a passion for birds sparked by a grey parrot. Today, Parque das Aves stands as Latin America's largest bird park, dedicated to the conservation of Atlantic Rainforest species. Visitors can explore a well-maintained, U-shaped trail stretching approximately 1.6 kilometers, leading through various immersive aviaries. These aviaries allow you to walk among macaws, toucans, and other stunning birds, offering unparalleled opportunities for observation and photography. The park is not only a tourist attraction but also a vital conservation center. Over half of the birds housed here have been rescued from illegal trade or situations of mistreatment, and the park actively participates in breeding programs for threatened species. Knowledgeable environmental educators are stationed along the route to provide insights into the birds' behaviors and the park's conservation efforts. Beyond the immersion aviaries, Parque das Aves features a butterfly house where visitors can observe diverse butterfly species and hummingbirds. The park also houses reptiles such as alligators, anacondas and boa constrictors, adding another layer to the biodiversity experience.
