Parque das Aves: A Bird Sanctuary

Parque das Aves, neighboring the famous Iguaçu Falls in Foz do Iguaçu, is a unique attraction focused on the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of birds, especially those from the Atlantic Rainforest. Founded in 1994 by Anna and Dennis Croukamp, the park began with a passion for birds sparked by a grey parrot and has since grown into the largest bird park in Latin America. Visitors can explore a 1.5km trail that winds through various immersive aviaries, bringing them face-to-face with macaws, toucans, flamingos, and various other species. These aviaries replicate natural habitats, offering visitors an intimate look into the lives of these birds. The park is home to over 130 species, with more than 50% of the birds rescued from illegal trafficking or mistreatment. Parque das Aves plays a vital role in conservation, with efforts including breeding programs and projects focused on threatened species like the jacutinga. Beyond its conservation work, Parque das Aves provides an educational experience, teaching visitors about the importance of preserving the Atlantic Rainforest and its inhabitants. The park also offers unique experiences like the Backstage Experience, allowing visitors to get a closer look at the park's conservation and recovery efforts. With over 800,000 visitors annually, Parque das Aves has become a key destination in Foz do Iguaçu, blending tourism with environmental awareness.
