Discover more about Parque das Aves

Parque das Aves is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a sanctuary committed to the conservation of Atlantic Forest birds, many of which have been rescued from dire situations. Founded in 1994 by Anna and Dennis Croukamp, the park began with a love for birds and a desire to protect them. Today, it stands as the largest bird park in Latin America, housing over 1,300 birds from around 130 species, with over 50% originating from animal trafficking. The park is located on 16 hectares of restored Atlantic Forest, providing an ideal habitat for its inhabitants. Visitors can explore the park through a self-guided 1.6km U-shaped trail that winds through five immersion aviaries, where they can witness birds such as macaws, toucans, and flamingos up close. The park also features a butterfly house, reptile exhibits with alligators, anacondas and boa constrictors, and a restaurant overlooking the Flamingo Lagoon. Parque das Aves actively participates in several species conservation programs, including the Blue-fronted Amazon Parrot Project and the Red-browed Amazon Parrot Project. The park also focuses on environmental education, with programs designed to connect visitors with the Atlantic Rainforest and promote engagement in conservation efforts. In addition to the traditional tour, Parque das Aves offers other experiences such as the Backstage Experience, which allows visitors to learn more about the conservation and recovery work carried out by the park, and the Forest Experience, which provides an immersion in the local indigenous culture.
